Tournament Rickety Beginnings
With a total of 104 entries, the Badminton Victoria Junior Circuit 1 (BVJC1) Tournament, held on February 3rd and 4th at Kilsyth Sports Centre was a success despite some challenges that have occurred throughout the weekend. Like…almost not having a referee! So, we would firstly, like to thank Susan Taylor even with her prior commitments on the Saturday morning for taking over Cynthia, who unfortunately couldn’t make it. But it all works out as Cynthia had taken over Susan when she couldn’t make it either! We’re just reciprocating the love out here. The starting time on Saturday did have to get pushed back to 10am but miraculously, we were able to finish on time, with no other push backs or major delays. There’s a first for everything.
On Saturday, we had a shaky beginning where none of the volunteers knew how to use tournament software to input the scores. So, we had to adapt in this challenging and unfamiliar situation. On top of that, we experienced some issues on the software that even an experienced person couldn’t figure it out. Luckily, all was well in the end.
Content Creation & Celebrations
Over the weekend, we gathered a bunch of fun videos and photos of our players to capture the atmosphere of the tournament hosted by us. We used the Instagram stories function to record our players in action on court, posted photos of our winners on day 1 and day 2 and even created a reel to showcase a Day in the Life at the BVJC1 Tournament. This is something we hope to do more of in the future! Creating fun videos for others to see and get involved in, populating our social media platform.
On top of this, it turned out to be Glenda’s birthday on Sunday, so we decided to create a handmade card for her including a short note from the BAV team and signatures from our umpires.

Sponsors & Acknowledgements
We would like to thank Badminton Victoria for trusting us in hosting this event and their sponsor Augustus Gelatery for providing ice cream vouchers. Also to our club sponsor Badminton RSL Products for providing the tournament shuttlecocks (Tourney No. 1, speed 78), and gift bags for our medallists.
We would also like to thank Glenda, the venue manager for her support in letting us use the courts at Kilsyth Sports Centre and Victoria Na for being the Director of the tournament.
Lastly, we had a team of volunteers, and we would like to thank them for their time and commitment they have put in over the weekend. For a tournament like this, a team is involved to make everything work and flow in a river with as little rocks as possible.
