Fun for all

Hey everyone!

This year we hosted two of our very own Games Day! It was a new thing we wanted to implement. We decided to host these events as a way to have our club members come together and socialise as well as providing an extra session just for matchplay. Thanks to everyone that could attend! We hope to have 2-3 Games Days next year.

Games Day at Kilsyth Badminton Centre

Friday September 27th

Our first games day event was held at Kilsyth Badminton Centre on Friday September 27th. It was open to our members, family members and friends. The event started off with a meet-and-greet with Louisa Ma, our club and state representative who has to come to say hello.

While the kids were doing Q&A with Louisa, we decided to do a parents training day so they know what their kids do at training and to see what it's like in their shoes! We did basic shot practice which included driving, lifting, drop shot and clearing. After this, we got the parents to play matches together and as well as the kids. It was enjoyable to see everyone having a blast and the parents on court showing off their technique! The kids took turn umpiring and parents had a go versing Louisa and coaches.

To take a break, we spectated Louisa Ma training and had a few snacks on the side. Vicky made tiramisu!

In the last half hour, we had a raffle. The prizes include keyrings, a tube of shuttles donated by Badminton RSL Products, London 2012 gear donated by Vicky Na, shirts and a badminton bag donated by Louisa Ma. There were so many gifts, pretty much everyone won a prize!

Games Day at Unique Badminton Centre

Friday December 20th

We had our second Games Day event for the year, this time in Mount Waverley/Glen Waverley area (Unique Badminton Centre). Something we did differently this time was we added trivia! A bit of fun for the kids as they take their break especially since the weather was boiling at 35 degrees! A few trivia questions were there to make sure they understood what they've been taught at training. To let you all in on a secret, some of the questions were:

If you were right-handed, which leg should you lunge on?

You are about to start a match, name one method to work out who will serve first?

along with some true or false questions. Also, guess what is Monica's next shot in this video:

The winner won a badminton bag donated by Badminton RSL Products. We also had raffle with prizes include grips donated by Louisa Ma, a pencil case and a tube of shuttlecocks donated by Badminton RSL Products. Of course, let's not forget we had a bunch snacks (and lots of melted chocolate 😩).

Acknowledgements

Thank you to our coaches Victoria Na, Nithik Vijayanand, Monica Chen and Natalie Tan for their commitment and time to spar with the students and thank you to the students and parents for their continuous support.

BAV Games Day this year has been a success and we wish to continue in the years to come. We hope you all had a memorable and fun time just as much as we did. If there is anything you would like to discuss further, send us a message on our website.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
